My name is Melissa Parker Morcom and I am fortunate enough to have been working at Millennium Kidz and Kare for 4 years now. It’s been an extremely fast few years, filled with all the wonderful benefits of working in our community here at Dr. E.W. Coffin. Beyond the day to day activities and fun, I’ve particularly enjoyed developing a Food Literacy Program called Food of the Week, which we will be entering our 4th year of in September 2018. Through food of the week we have all become food adventurers by tasting and learning about over 100 nutrious foods which are new to many of our kids. In addition to Food of the Week, I’ve created a weekly celebration of each child called Virtue Board. This gives us a chance to spotlight 2 children a week. Through stories and examples from their lives, we show how unique each child is. It is such a privilege to honour each child and we hope that it is a positive experience that they can call upon when they need to remember how special they are.
In my spare time I like to keep learning by taking classes in the areas of nutrition and health. I currently enjoy going to a weekly women’s Qigong group and hope to continue in the fall. My other biggest area of time spent is time with my family, in particular, my daughters – Lucy 10 and Sally 21.
